National Science Week

This week is National Science Week.  The theme for this year is INNOVATION: Powering future industries. The theme incorporates the advancement in technology in all industries, especially using artificial intelligence (AI). Student investigations could include the use of AI in industry, as well as recent advancements in science and technology across a range of topics of interest with opportunities to engage with the theme from a variety of perspectives.

But what is Innovation? Innovation is about applying ideas to improve a product or service to create more value. People in all organisations innovate when they find better ways of doing things. Innovation can also mean creatively solving a complex problem.

How are we celebrating National Science Week?

Over this week and next, students across the school are participating in a range of science activities to celebrate National Science Week.

In Kinder this week, students are making paper by cutting up paper scraps and adding water to make a pulp. They then pressed the pulp into the moulds pushing out excess water as they went to make their own piece of recycled paper. Kinder students have also been exploring floating and sinking by making predictions and then carrying out the experiment to determine whether what they predicted was correct or not.

On Friday, students in Grades 4-6 are participating in live comedic science sketches filmed exploring AI Innovation in industry and science. Students will interact, laugh and learn about advances in technology, and the ways in which STEM is leading our future study and career pathways.

We look forward to sharing photos and our experiences with you next week.
